SERVICE INFORMATION
Photo Identification:
Michael Hobbar Hobbar1
Name: Michael Hobbar
Rank: Staff Sergeant
MOS: 0311 Infantryman
Billet: Squad Leader, 6th Squad
Years of Service: 7

PERSONAL INFORMATION
Age: 26 (4 June 1986)
Height: 5’9
Weight: 138 lbs
Personality: Michael is easy to get along with, good with following and giving orders if need be, have a hard time trusting people unless they are friends or people I know very well. Good personality and try to stay out of trouble for the most part. Michael cares for his friends and will do everything to protect them. He is a bit forgetting at times due to his rather short attention span.

Because of his relatively short attention span, one has to remind him sometimes to get something done.

Michael likes to associate with those who are smart, or has skills, often taking them to his advantage. He’s a good leader and is mostly fair when it comes to keeping the group on task and tasking everyone with a fair amount of duties. He is a bit selfish and lazy and would use his leadership role to his advantage, staying back as others do the hard work, though he works his subordinates effectively and efficiently.

Michael is a quick learner. He can learn something in a matter of minutes (obviously depending on what’s being taught. Some tasks take longer to learn.) He also is for the most part, a trial and error self-learner. He would rather do something himself and learn from trying and repeating rather than relying on someone to take him step by step or watch or read tutorials.

In contrast from being easy to get along to, he is also a bit defensive when it comes to his own image. If he feels insulted he will make it known, and especially if he feels that there is insubordination to either himself or to the chain of command.

Michael also have a obvious love for the service, any tarnish in its good name and he will make it known. Referring back to the previous point, if there is insubordination, he will see to it that it dissipates.

In viewing others, he is highly opinionated and judgmental. When he sees someone, he doesn’t immediately form an opinion, but when he makes his mind, it’s normally set. Michael has a extreme dislike for people who brag their skills and when asked to perform cannot. He always tries to see the good in people however, but once again, having a set mind makes it hard for him to do so. Michael will not hesitate to voice his opinions and sometimes, that has…disastrous effects.

History: Michael was born in Nevada in the Tahoe region of the state while his parents were in Tahoe for a vacation. His parents enjoyed skiing very much and did so on most vacations which rubbed off on Michael as he grew up. After being born, Michael's family returned to their home city in Phoenix Arizona.

Growing up, Michael was not the smartest tool in the tool box to say the least. He only did average in school and found refuge in sports and art.Michael tried many sports: football, baseball, soccer, tennis, the list goes on and on, but only one field suited Michael: the pool. Michael started swimming and he was just naturally good at it. He was able to quickly learn and glide through the water.

Back at school, Michael just hung in, he joined youth groups like Boy Scouts and learned outdoors skills. He quickly advanced through the ranks, but once he reached near the end of his Boy Scout Career, closing in on Eagle Scout, he lost intrest. He soon discovered JROTC. His high school had a Marine Corps JROTC and he joined up. Naturally, he was good, he quickly learned drills and military regulations and customs. His dedication earned him promotion to Cadet Captain.

In swimming, he was racing at very high levels now. He was swimming Far Western times (that's pretty fast) and was the star at his own High School. He made team captain and the team won Division Championships.

Because of his JROTC experience, Michael decided he would enlist in the Marine Corps. He departed to MCRD-SD..Boot Camp.

Stepping off the bus, Michael was just like most recruits, only he was experienced with COD and the Marine way of speaking and the environment. Michael did exceedingly well in boot camp and graduated among the top of his platoon even scoring Expert Marksman. He was meritoriously promoted to PFC upon graduation. Going to SOI, Michael did well. Finishing SOI at Camp Pendleton, he was promoted to Lance Corporal and assigned to the 4th Marine Division, 23rd Marines based at San Bruno.

Standard training and weekend drill was the majority of Michael's first few years in the Corps. He was soon promoted to Corporal just a little bit before the Unit's second deployment to Iraq after the initial invasion.

Michael's first tour of duty was to Iraq in 2006. The tour was mostly uneventful: routine patrols and relaxing at the FoB. On a mission, Michael's team was on patrol when they came under attack from insurgents. After their squad leader was shot and taken out of the fight, then Corporal Hobbar stepped up and took charge of the situation and attacked the enemy forces. Michael was shot in the leg, but still continued on. The Marines killed a squad sized enemy force that were armed with heavy machine guns, snipers and secured enemy weapon cashes. For his actions, Michael was awarded a Bronze Star with a V for valor.

Back in the United States, the Marines of 23rd Marines continued their reserve ritual of weekend drill and monthly activities. Later in 2009, the unit was once again deployed to Afghanistan. This tour was much different than his first tour in Iraq. Lots of mountains and climbing and fighting a hit and run enemy. The action was much more intense, but much more brief. A sniper would fire and Marines would take cover and return fire and await CAS.

After the tour in Afghanistan, Michael decided to go Career and requested change in status from the Reserves to Active Duty. After a few weeks of wait, his change of status was approved and he was transferred to 1st Marines, 4th Regiment, Hotel Company, Second platoon.

SAMPLE ROLE-PLAY
2nd Squad began moving about. Michael looked ahead and saw the forest ahead seemingly move around. He held up his fist commanding his squad to hold their position. Michael flattened his hand palm facing down and pushed his hand towards the earth.

His team lowered towards the deck. Hobbar clicked on his coms, "Sabre-Actual, Sabre-Actual, this is Katana-Actual. I'm moving my squad into the forest to engage possible tangos. How Copy over?"

Michael signaled his squad to advance forward. Michael brought his M4 up to his shoulders and began towards the forest keeping sight on the possible enemy forces at all times.

"Katana-One, take the left flank, Katana-Two, follow close behind me." Hobbar clicked off his com and crept further into the forest. The figures were becoming more defined. He could clearly see 4 heads. Two wrapped in turbans and two wearing some traditional hat...something similar to that of what Jewish men wear. "Sabre, 4 tangos dead ahead, I need confirmation they are clear hot. Over."
